A Place Called San Antonio (And texAs!)

I was born in Pleasanton, Texas but I came to San Antonio as soon as I could. Well, in truth my parents did when I was four and I’m grateful for that. Not that I don’t find Pleasanton a swell place. It’s just that I like the vibe around here.

Either Will Rogers or Mark Twain called San Antonio one of America’s four unique cities. Both men have been credited with the quote and I’d be hard pressed to confirm which one actually said it. For me the sentiment rings true. This is my home town and it has an old soul, one that has only recently begun to be appreciated again. It’s a crossroads of culture, where the new world and old world met a long time ago and decided the land around it would be a good place to start a new republic. There are ghosts here from every walk of life, worthy of both world renown legend and humble local reverence.

A while back I figured out I wanted to reacquaint myself with my hometown with a camera in hand and a need to delve deep into the heart of the city. I wanted to get beyond the Riverwalk and Alamo document not only part of the city’s history, but keep a record of it as I know it now because it’ll change once again before we know it.

And that land around San Antonio called Texas? I’m just as drawn to it as I am my hometown, especially the big lonely skies of West Texas. You have to love a place with miles and miles of open road.
